Pokemon Go at Flinders
Finally, pokemon have flocked to Flinders Uni. If you’re not up on the craze already, Pokemon Go is the latest app that tracks your location and allows you to catch virtual pokemon in real life places. Catch ‘em all, battle at gyms, hatch eggs, get items…
The game has exploded in popularity, already outstripping other popular apps – with more downloads than Tinder and twice the usage of Instagram and Snapchat. Predictions see Pokemon Go surpassing Twitter in daily active users within the next few days.
Flinders has responded with a new club – Flindermon Go. Spreading the love with plans for a Pokemon Go pub crawl and shared tips (Did you hear there was an Articuno at Mount Lofty?!). According to a Flindermon Go survey, the most popular team on campus is blue – followed by red, with yellow bringing up the rear. But with players now joining together to discuss their love of pokemon, hopefully the numbers will even out.
Pokemon Gyms on the Bedford Park campus – where you can battle it out with other players – are located at McHughs Café and The Pendopo. There are also a ton of lures in play at peak times, with other trainers using them in prime locations around the campus. The plaza is a hotspot for pokemon!

Pokestops are many and sometimes outdated, since Pokemon Go uses the map from Ingress – a similar GPS-based game active on campus prior to the new Student Hub. You will, however, find a walk around the lake and plaza to be rewarding – with many goodies up for grabs. Here’s us at FUSA, looking towards the lake and The Pendopo gym – between Social Sciences North and Social Sciences South… (and yes, we can indeed reach that Pokestop from our desks).
Come into FUSA, say hi to our friendly staff, and bag a pokemon! And if you spot any rare or exciting pokemon on campus, let your fellow Flinders students know at the Facebook group!
