Flinders Community Grants
Funding for student-led ideas that build belonging for underrepresented communities, celebrate diverse backgrounds and bring people together at Flinders.
We are offering funding of up to $3000 for your student-led projects that support diverse communities at Flinders University. Whether you’re an individual student, part of a club or society, or working in a team, this is your chance to bring an idea to life.
Why apply?
The Flinders Community Grants program will support your initiatives that celebrate authentic inclusivity within the Flinders community.
Proposals are encouraged to reflect at least three of the following priority areas:
• Equity focus – initiatives that centre or uplift underrepresented voices and communities.
• Celebration – ideas that celebrate and appreciate the diverse backgrounds that exist within the Flinders community.
• Storytelling – projects that create space for students to share experiences and learn from one another.
• Connectedness – initiatives that help build relationships across different groups.
• Cross Community Collaboration – projects that bring people together, such as partnerships between multiple clubs, groups or communities.
• Mutual respect – projects that encourage listening, curiosity and understanding.
• Care – ideas that centre care, celebration and reflection within the student community.
Who can apply?
We encourage applications from:
• individual students
• student groups
• clubs and societies
• collaborative student teams
• staff and colleges (provided the proposed project is significantly student-led)
What kinds of projects are suitable?
Projects should centre inclusion. They should create opportunities for students from different backgrounds, communities and experiences to feel welcome, represented and connected on campus.
The format of these projects could include:
• storytelling projects
• creative works such as zines, posters, short films, exhibitions or performances
• events and celebrations
• community-building activities
• placemaking or collaborative campus initiatives
• training or development opportunities for key student groups
• workshops or forums
What funding is available?
You can access anywhere from $100 to $3000 for your grant idea, depending on the scope, scale, and potential impact of the project. No project is too small.
How the process works
Submit an expression of interest
Start by telling us about your idea through a short online expression of interest form.
We’re not just looking for ready-to-go projects. We will work with you to develop and bring your ideas to life, no matter what stage of planning you’re in.
Assessment
Ideas will be assessed based on the above priority areas, how well they align with the program’s aims, and potential impact on students. Your ideas should aim to have clear and realistic goals, and ensure funds are directly related to the Flinders campus and community.
Selection
Expressions of interest will be reviewed by the Flinders Community Grants assessment panel within two weeks.
Support available
Once assessed, the FUSA team will work collaboratively with you and other applicants to grow your ideas into successful projects using co-design principles. Some projects may need only limited support, while others may involve more active collaboration and scaffolding from FUSA.
