A queer-centred sex education event, open to everyone. Drop into the Student Hub for live music, a Foam Clay Workshop hosted by Calamity Tash, cookies, activities, useful sexual health information and a chance to meet local sexual health organisations.

Why sex ed?
We don’t all arrive at uni with the same information.
Some students had comprehensive sex education growing up. Some got the basics. Some got very little. For LGBTQIA+ students, even the sex ed they did receive may not have reflected their bodies, relationships or experiences. Students coming to Flinders from around Australia and the world also arrive with different experiences of sexual health education, relationships and healthcare.
This is a queer-centred, low-pressure space to learn something useful, find credible resources, meet local services or just come along for the music, making and food. Everyone is welcome.
Around half were among people aged 20 to 29.
Sexual health remains particularly relevant for young adults. Good information, testing and access to care matter whether you’re learning something for the first time or filling in a few gaps.

What’s happening

Bedlam Rigney, an artist from the Western suburbs of Kaurna Yerta, will speak at the opening of the event.
Foam Clay with Calamity Tash
Calamity Tash will host a hands-on Foam Clay Workshop. Join in for as much or as little as you like.
Live music
Drop by, listen for a while and hang out in the Hub. You don’t need to be doing an activity to be part of the event.

Wondering what it’ll be like?
Do I have to stay for the whole event?
No. It’s a casual drop-in event, so you can stay for five minutes, join an activity, grab a cookie, listen to some live music or hang around for longer.
Do I have to join in or talk about anything personal?
No. Everything is optional, and you won’t be asked to share anything about your own sex life or experiences.
Who is the event for?
This is a queer-centred sex education event, with LGBTQIA+ bodies, relationships and experiences kept in the picture. All Flinders students are welcome, and you don’t need to know anything already.
What can I do at the event?
Listen to live music, hear from Bedlam Rigney at the opening, join Calamity Tash’s Foam Clay Workshop, grab a cookie, explore activities and giveaways, or speak with SHINE SA, Thorne Harbour Health and SAMESH. Take part in as much or as little as you like.
I’m an international student. Where can I get sexual health information or care?
You’re welcome to use the sexual health services and resources on this page. If Australia’s health system or Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) is unfamiliar, Flinders’ international student health cover information explains how OSHC works and where to get help. Medibank is Flinders University’s preferred OSHC provider.
If you’d prefer support that takes language and cultural context into account, PEACE Multicultural Services offers free, confidential support to migrants living in South Australia, regardless of visa type, including international students. Interpreters can be arranged at no cost. The SHINE SA Sexual Healthline can also arrange a free interpreter.
Where can I get more information or confidential support?
If you have a sexual health question, want advice about testing or contraception, or simply want to talk something through privately, the SHINE SA Sexual Healthline and Flinders Sexual and Reproductive Health are good places to start.
If something has happened to you, or you’re worried about consent, sexual harassment, sexual assault or safety, Flinders’ Safety on campus information brings together confidential support, reporting options and pathways for urgent help. Making a report does not automatically start a complaint.
